5/27/11 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Friday

OK, so you know I blog not only about my journey losing my baby weight but also about being a new mom.  I now get Babies R' Us catalogs since we registered there.  It's no joke that technology is always getting bigger and better.  A lot of things I've found unecessary and I don't think you should waste your money on the newest gadget for baby things, however, I came upon a really cool one if you're pregnant right now.  Baby monitors are always questionable as to what's the "best."  In reality, it's cheapest to just go the route of a simple monitor that signals if you're baby is crying.  But, of course, this was one of the things we felt was important and wanted to spend more money on.  We ended up getting a thin, hand-held monitor that not only delivers sound but images as well.  I turn off the image at night because it's too bright but it's definitely nice for the occasional check if you're watching TV etc. and want to see what's going on.  A lot of times I'm making sure the binkie strap connected to his jammies isn't strangling him or his new thing is to press his face against the slats or stick his arms/legs through them.  This worries me so I come in and move him if I catch it.  We pretty much got the best monitor other than the monitor with a TV to put downstairs (which we don't need because our house is small).  The NEW monitor that's only $30 more than the one we bought is so much better.  The actual camera can swivel around if your baby moves and you can no longer see him or her in the monitor (which happens to us ALL the time!).  It does a lot of other fancy things but the one that we would've used the most was this feature.  Geez, apparently monitors are like cell phones; there's always something bigger and better on the market!
